DRAWINGS
Lil Peep, 2019
Charcoal
This is what I consider to be technically the best drawing I have ever done. Conceptually, it's pretty straight forward: it's one of my favorite musical artists of all time, Lil Peep. I completed this drawing during my sophomore year of high school and it still remains my favorite.
Saint Paul, 2020
Charcoal
This is another one of my favorite charcoal drawings but with more meaning. I drew this for the Wounded Warriors Project. The subject is Apostle Paul, he has a halo and blind eyes. Paul lost his sight in the Bible but was able to regain it with the help of Ananias. He also had a near death experience while in Damascus. I see wounded soldiers as being similar to Paul, traveling far to fight for what they believe in. Although they were injured, the Wounded Warriors project, like Ananias, gives them a way to return to sort-of-normalcy.
Grief, 2020
Color Pastel
This was my first drawing done with color pastel and I love how it turned out. The concept deals with the way people cope with death or adversity in their lives. Many people are afraid to process or show their emotions or maybe they just want to appear strong for others, hence the stoic expression on the subject's face. No matter what though, all grief and turmoil must come out somehow. This drawing got a perfect score at a state-level high school art competition, VASE and was chosen to be put on display at the Hudson Foundation in Southlake, TX.
Memento Mori, 2021
Color Pastel
My "Memento Mori" piece was the second color pastel drawing I had ever done. This one also got a perfect score at the state-level VASE competition and was put on display by the Hudson Foundation. Along with color pastel, I made 3D paper flowers to give this more dimension and add to the concept. This also deals with the effects of losing a loved one, the subject wears a crown of flowers deriving from the traditions of Dia de los Muertos. Grief can consume a person to the point where they feel as though they can't breathe. The eyes are highlighted in this composition because sight is the last thing a person has when experiencing death.
Ivana, 2020
Charcoal
This is another straight-forward drawing I just did for fun during my junior year of high school. The subject is my girlfriend, Ivana. I love the detail of this drawing.
